Photojournalism / Editorial

Photojournalism is a part of journalism that is characterized by the use of images to tell a story. The images are positioned so that they follow the narrative, effectively helping the reader to visualize as they read. Photojournalists will often travel to take pictures for magazines and news articles that either tell a story or provide images for an article. Along with taking pictures, some photojournalists are also responsible for optimizing and preparing the pictures for publication.

Images and Written Words Photojournalism

When words and images are combined, the imagination has no limit. Dark deeds are exposed, barriers are destroyed, secret sounds in nature come alive, and the words of a politician are suddenly audible to the human ear. A skilled photojournalist can approach almost any topic and turn it into a story as vast as the universe, making it interesting for the critical reader, yet simple and interesting for children.

Brian Kanof - A Qualified Photojournalist

Brian Kanof began his photojournalism career as a freelance shooter in 1967, selling his sports action photos to The University of Texas at El Paso, the El Paso Times, the El Paso Sun Kings (AA Baseball), and the Sun Bowl Association. He was soon given contracts to shoot for the UTEP Athletic Department, The El Paso Sol, and The Sun Bowl. After nearly 50 years, he was the Official Photographer for the Sun Bowl Association, shooting the First Light Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Western Refining All American Golf Tournament, the Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational Basketball Tournament and, of course, The Hyundai Sun Bowl Football Game, each year.
